What is a conqueror and how can become one? Romans 8:28 tells us that we are MORE than a CONQUERORS. The clause, “more than” is a combative term meaning in addition to something.
After much searching, I had to go to the root of conqueror because the only definition was “one who conquers”. I found Strong’s that it means to surmount, prevail or annihilate. The definition of annihilate is to destroy. The predominating force at the time were the Romans.
The Roman military was the best in the world. The soldiers carried approximately 75 pounds of gear on their individual backs with included their food, eating utensils, and weapons. A soldier was not allowed to show any type of fear. If a solder did show any type fear, then that solder was stoned to death by his fellow soldiers.
God makes it very clear that having frear is a sin was He tells us 365 times to not be afraid.
To give a little background, the book of Romans was an epistle or series of letters written to Roman church in Rome. We know that Paul was a Jew (Acts 21:39). We learn in Philippians 3:4-5) that he is also Roman. Paul was an educated man, in fact his father was a Pharisee (Acts 23:6) a member of a Jewish sect of the intertestamental period noted for strict observance of rites and ceremonies of the written law and for insistence on the validity of their own oral traditions concerning the law. After reading the Book of Matthew, particuly, from the time of Jesus’ baptism to after his death, it was this sect that be can be held accountable for the persecution that the Jews experienced. Saul was present at Stephen’s stoning and he was responsible of imprisoning/per may Jews because their faith in Jesus. As with anyone, Paul had to terms that everyone could understand the concept of being conqueror.
When Jesus was baptized, we learn the Holy Spirit came upon him. We are given the same Holy Spirit ascended onto him. In Matthew 14:12, Jesus tells disciples that after he ass to Heaven, that we would have even more power than he had. When Jesus was crucified, he did more than laid in ground. His spirit went into Hell and conquered death (Acts 2:24). We also must get into our spirit that Jesus paid the price for sin, but for healing as well (Isaiah 53:5).
After the life-altering event that occurred six years ago. I was diagnosed with having 2 strokes and virus on my brain called Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (pml). The prognosis with usually death. I was told by the specialist that had 6 months to 5 years to live. I have passed the five year mark a year ago and have started the process of going to work. There no new evidence the virus is still alive. Over the past six years I have worked very hard to CONQUER my circumstances. However, I could not do anything but through blood of Jesus. Lately, I come the understanding what Jesus did so that I can push harder each day to show the Devil that he is not conquering me, but I am him. When a was laying in the hospital, my father stated I was in a win-win situation. If a survived I win because I have my physical life, if I died, then because of a decision I made several years ago, I will still have life. The devil forgot that was not going to win this war.
Over 2000 years age, God sent his son to offer hope to anyone that accepys it. 33 years later, he willingly went to cross and became to final sacrifice for everyone from Adam to the day God passes judgement. Just repeat this very simple prayer because the longer you wait, the greater the chance it will too late.
Dear God, I know that I am a sinner and there is nothing that I can do to save myself. I confess my complete helplessness to forgive my own sin or to work my way to heaven. At this moment I trust Christ alone as the One who bore my sin when He died on the cross. I believe that He did all that will ever be necessary for me to stand in your holy presence. I thank you that Christ was raised from the dead as a guarantee of my own resurrection. As best as I can, I now transfer my trust to Him. I am grateful that He has promised to receive me despite my many sins and failures. Father, I take you at your word. I thank you that I can face death now that you are my Savior. Thank you for the assurance that you will walk with me through the deep valley. Thank you for hearing this prayer. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
